So 501st members need jobs…
Following The Rose Parade, which saw all those men in white armour marching the streets of Pasadena, with *that* comment from Bob Eubanks the official Star Wars site has posted a rather interesting article.
Bob Eubanks made a rather interesting comment about the 501st members whilst commentating on the Rose Parade including the words ‘groupies’, ‘need’, ‘to’, ‘get’, and ‘jobs’. Now, there are those out there who see fit to ridicule Star Wars fans, especially the ones that are really into it, like those in 501st. However anyone that thinks of those men and women as groupies who need jobs really should look into what these guys actually do.
These guys don’t just go and turn up at conventions, they actually do other things. They do a lot of charity work for charities such as Candle Lighters, Make-a-Wish, and, well take a look here. They also visit hospitals, day care centres and schools throughout the world.
And now, the SW.com article. Behind the Armour: 501st Professionals, details the professions of some of the members from 501st garrisons around the world. Police Officers, military personnel, emergency room technician, physicians, you name it, at least one of these guys probably do it. I don’t remember seeing ‘ex-game show host’ on there.
So Bob Eubanks should really at least try to think through what he says before he says it next time, and maybe he should also think about how best to not annoy some of the greatest guys around. And I’m sure most people agree, the 501st do have jobs, aren’t groupies and indeed own muchly.
